Mary the Mother of James and Joses Matt. 27:55,56; Mark 15:40, 41,47; Mark 16:1-11
We aren't told a lot about this particular Mary, but her name keeps coming up as we read of the ministry of Jesus. She had at least two sons, James and Joses, and it was her son
James who was chosen by Jesus as an apostle. We do know that she was one of the women who followed Jesus and that she had sufficient wealth to minister to Him and His disciples in material
things as they traveled about.
Mary was among the women from Galilee who went with Jesus to Jerusalem and there witnessed His death on the cross. She saw them lay Him in the tomb and
wept with the disciples. On the day after the Sabbath she went with the other women back to the tomb with spices to carry out the burial rituals for the One whom they had loved, followed and
served. Much to their surprise, the angel showed them the empty tomb and they were filled with both fear and joy. They hurried through the garden and reported to the apostles as the angel
instructed them that their Lord was alive!
Mary, the mother of James, found spiritual truth and joy in Jesus and was willing to give not only her time and treasure, but also her
precious son to follow Jesus and be used as He saw fit. Hers was a simple faith and a trusting love.
