Esther, Queen with a Mission
The Book of Esther, especially Chapter 4 and 5
Queen Esther of the Old Testament is an excellent example of a woman using her resources to correct a situation that would have
spelled tragedy for her people, and possibly herself. Remove, if you will, the trappings of the Persian court and the threat of genocide; focus rather on the situation stated in modern terms.
Queen Esther was made aware of a tragic situation that existed in her land. She carefully researched the problem, using the resources she had available and found that it appeared not
to be anything that she had the power to correct. She did, however, have a knowledge of God and His promises and was open to believing that, with God, the impossible could be accomplished.
She then made careful preparations, solicited the involvement of many others in the ministry of prayer and fasting and proceeded. She followed social and legal practices of her day and
presented her request in a convincing manner, achieving her goal.
The story of Esther is filled with blood feuds, a rags-to-riches story, jealousy, splendor, arrogance and despair-a
thoroughly wonderful story. But sometimes it is better to take these emotional elements away and see what really happened here. Esther, a woman of wealth and position, knew her God and
followed her heart and His leading to accomplish much.
